The National Zoological Park in Delhi has witnessed the death of as many as 325 animals in the year 2016-17 informed the union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan in Lok Sabha.
In a written reply, the minister on August 8 mentioned that the list of the dead animals include black buck, Indian Gazelle, monitored lizard, emu and spotted deer.
“In last one year (2016-17), total mortality of animals in the National Zoological Park at Delhi is 325,” the minister said.
Harsh Vardhan was replying to a question which enquired whether the zoo has witnessed the highest mortality in last one year.
The minister said shock, tuberculosis, traumatic shock and senility were the primary reasons behind the deaths.
Recently the environment minister in the lower house said that heat stroke and cold triggered by extreme weather condition was responsible for the death of 24 animals in various zoos across the country in 2016-17.
