Virat Overtakes Tendulkar To Be Placed 1st in The List Of Most Centuries While Chasing

As the men in blue clinched an easy 8 wicket victory against West Indies in the 5th ODI securing a 3-1 series win here at Sabina Park in Jamaica, India’s skipper Virat Kohli surpassed batting legend Sachin Tendulkar in terms of centuries scored while chasing targets.

With a poultry 206 runs to score, Virat Kohli eased his way to his 28th ODI ton, 18 of which has come while batting second. Kohli amassed an unbeaten 111 from 115 balls hitting 12 fours and 2 sixes.

Kohli now holds the record of scoring 18 centuries in the 50 overs format while chasing leaving behind master blaster Sachin Tendulkar who had scored 17. For Tendulkar, the 17 centuries took 232 innings to come while India’s run machine, Virat Kohli, only required 102 innings to achieve the feat.

The third place in the list of most tons scored while batting second belongs to one of the most explosive Sri Lankan openers T.M Dilshan who scored 11 hundred in 116 innings.

As Kohli, who was well supported by Ajinkya Rahane and Dinesh Kartik, kept on tormenting the Caribbean bowling attack another record was made when he reached the three figures mark. Kohli now has become the only Indian captain to have scored two centuries against the West Indies in their own backyard. Rahul Dravid was previously the sole Indian skipper to have notched a century against West Indies in the Caribbean Islands.

Before the Delhi lad struck his fourth ton against West Indies, it was Mohammad Shami (4 for 48) and Umesh Yadav (3 for 53) who tore apart the Windies batting line up.

Virat Kohli, who was adjudged the man of the match, just needs to more centuries to equal Aussie legend Ricky Ponting score of 30 in ODI. Overall in the list of the most number of centuries, captain Kohli is placed third after Tendulkar and Ponting.
