Though many people may feel that Yogi Adityanath was a surprise choice for the post of CM of Uttar Pradesh, the fact is that he was always a favourite for the post due to a number of reasons. Yogi Adityanath is very popular across different castes and he had displayed lots of discipline in this round of polling.
Several BJP leaders pointed out that Yogi was the obvious choice. In fact one leader pointed out that much before the polls Amit Shah was of the opinion that only two names could be considered for the post one was Rajnath Singh and second was Yogi. When surveys were carried out within BJP and among the general people also , only these two names emerged as the possible choices.
Also many leaders pointed out that Yogi worked very hard against his rebels and went ahead with door to door campaigning in Gorakhpur. Though many people thought that Adityanath could be stumbling block, both the Prime Minintser and Amit Shah had lots of faith in Yogi Adityanath. Yogi who was always considered as a simple man with lots of popularity , cemented his popularity with the UP road show.
Even when BJP did not do well in the by elections in the State, Shah who had immense faith in Yogi did not blame him for the failure. Besides the sanyasi had huge popularity across different castes and the RSS had nothing to do with the elevation of the sanyasi to the top post of UP.
