The Delhi University is burning with issues like campus violence, nationalism and freedom of speech. At such a time Mr Pranab Mukherjee the Indian President has made it clear that there should be no room for intolerant Indian.

During the 6th KS Rajamony Memorial Lecture in Kochi , the President said that India is open to freedom of speech ,thought and expression but he said that educational institutes must not promote a culture of unrest.

On February 22nd there were clashes between the students of ABVP and the All India Students Association outside the Ramjas College. The institute had invited JNU students Umar Khalid and Shehla Rashid to address a seminar. Khalid is the same student who had allegedly raised anti India slogans in an event in JNU last year and was later arrested.

The clashes have again brought up the issues of nationalism. While ABVP students said that they wanted to save DU from anti national elements, the students and teachers of DU took out rallies against ABVP saying that ABVP’s act was against freedom of speech.

The President said that learning institutes are a place for creativity and thinking. It is a place where there should be reasonable discussions and debates and there should be no place for protests and unrest. He said that the nation and its people come first and we must stop the moral decline. He said that we must promote India’s pluralism and diversity and uproot violence, prejudice and hatred.
