National Highways To Have E-Toll Lanes From Sept 1

The Road Transport and Highway Ministry announced that from September 1at all toll plaza of national highways, one lane will be earmarked from vehicles with FASTags.

The ministry on Thursday announced, “Out of all Hybrid Lanes, at least one shall be exclusively dedicated for FASTag vehicles where no other mode of Toll Payment shall be accepted. This exclusive one lane for FASTag vehicles will be operational with effect from September 1, 2017.”
The utility of FASTags lies in the fact that it can be installed on the windshield of the vehicle and toll payments could be made directly from the prepaid account linked to it.
It has been announced that from Friday, FASTags will be available from the website of banks, National Highways Authority of India and Indian Highways Management Company Limited.
The statement further said, ““Apart from the online sale, from tomorrowAugust 18, 2017, FASTags can also be bought from sale points of Common Services Centre (CSC) to be set up near toll plazas.”
The government has notified that installation and integration Radio-frequency identification (RFID) at all toll plaza lanes will be completed by October 31.
